Hi, Honma Meiko (本间芽衣子) here, I was planning to share this team after reaching a higher rating, but due to winning the September GuangDong Monthly Tournament, I’m gonna share it early. I reached 1823 on the in-game ladder by the time of writing this. Hope you enjoy!

Reaching 1823

Team Building:

Observations:

1. With Dragapult and Cinderace banned from Series6, there’s much less threats to PorygonZ and Urshifu.

2. With Indeedee F and Togekiss banned, Follow Me users are now only limited to Clefairy and Togetic, while Rage Powder users such as Amoonguss and Volcarona are getting more attention.

3. Amoonguss’ use rate sky rocketed, once reaching the top, increasing the usage of Taunt, most common on Pokemon like Talonflame.

Based on the above observations, I decided to use a team with positive speed control: PorygonZ paired with max Speed Amoongus for Spore support. To counter the opponent’s faster mons, I chose Hatterene and Aromatisse for a Trick Room mode. Aromatisse’s Ability, Aroma Veil, makes it immune to taunt for easier TR set up. I then added Dracovish and Urshifu to round up the team with more offense.

The Team:

Porygon-Z @ Life Orb

Ability: Adaptability

Level: 50

EVs: 68 HP / 28 Def / 204 SpA / 4 SpD / 204 Spe

Modest Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

- Hyper Beam

- Dark Pulse

- Nasty Plot

- Protect

Dmax core for positive speed control. Modest nature to increase chances of KOs, Max Strike usually OHKOs Amoonguss and non max SpD Clefairy. Nasty Plot to counter teams that set up screens.

Urshifu-Gmax @ Choice Band

Ability: Unseen Fist

Level: 50

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Wicked Blow

- Sucker Punch

- Close Combat

- Iron Head

When holding Choice Band, Urshifu-SS can output serious damage, OHKOing Dusclops and Arcanine with Wicked Blow. Definitely one of the strongest physical attackers. Iron Head to counter Weezing.

Dracovish @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Strong Jaw

Level: 50

EVs: 108 HP / 196 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 196 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Fishious Rend

- Rock Slide

- Outrage

- Psychic Fangs

Very standard set. Outspeeds Raichu and Gengar, Fishious Rend OHKOs Urshifu-SS.

Hatterene-Gmax (F) @ Weakness Policy

Ability: Magic Bounce

Level: 50

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA

Quiet Nature

IVs: 0 Atk / 3 Spe

- Dazzling Gleam

- Expanding Force

- Mystical Fire

- Protect

Maxed when using Trick Room mode. Very powerful under TR, outputs great damage with WP procced.

Aromatisse @ Babiri Berry

Ability: Aroma Veil

Level: 50

EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD

Sassy Nature

IVs: 0 Spe

- Moonblast

- Trick Room

- Gyro Ball

- Helping Hand

One of the slowest TR setters. With Taunt stopping TR being prevalent in the current meta, such as Safety Goggles Talonflame, having the ability Aroma Veil helps greatly. Gyro Ball is used to proc Hatterene’s WP.

Amoonguss @ Focus Sash

Ability: Regenerator

Level: 50

EVs: 156 HP / 100 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

- Sludge Bomb

- Spore

- Rage Powder

- Protect

Max Speed with Focus Sash has gained much popularity as a viable set. Usually leads with PZ, opting to redirect or putting the opponent to sleep. Rage Powder + Trick Room is also another option when needed.

Pixiv ID: 81053489

Leads:

Positive Speed Control:

PorygonZ+Amoonguss, Urshifu+Dracovish in the back. Just clap them, easy. If the opponent leads anything that threatens PZ, use Rage Powder, if not just Spore them. Be careful of Taunt.

Trick Room Mode:

Dracovish/Urshifu/Amoonguss+Aromatisse, Hatterene+anything other than PZ in the back. There’s 2 main ways of setting up TR. With Rage Powder from Amoonguss, or using hyper offensive mons to threaten a KO on the opponent at the same time setting TR for the back. Be careful with your lead, as you can’t redirect AOEs and Safety Goggle users. Try to sack off the other mon for a free switch in into Hatterene. Then proc your own WP with Gyro Ball and enjoy the scene.

The Bait:

Aromatisse+Urshifu/Dracovish, PZ+Amoonguss in the back. Bait the opponent into thinking that you’re setting up TR with Aromatisse, and just pick up a KO with Helping Hand. This is quite a risky play, more suitable in BO3.

Common Matchups:

Sun Teams:

Opponent leads: Sableye/Ninetales+Charizard

Leads: Aromatisse+Dracovish, PZ+Urshifu/Amoonguss in the back

The opponent would fear a potential TR and try to KO Aromatisse, what they don’t know is that Helping Hand Fishious Rend OHKOs Gmax Charizard under Sun, so just go for the KO and there’s your win.

Tailwind Lapras:

Opponent leads: Talonflame+Lapras

Leads: PZ+Amoonguss, Dracovish+Urshifu in the back.

There’s 2 ways of approaching this comp. First is to Max Strike+Protect, to prevent Amoonguss from being Taunted. This ensures that even if the opponent sends out an Urshifu next turn, Amoonguss would still be able to redirect the damage. The other way is to Max Strike+Spore. This is when you think the opponent’s going for Tailwind+GMax Resonance. But if the opponent Taunts Amoonguss and sends out a threat to PZ such as Urshifu, you would have to Max Guard+switch into Dracovish to ensure PZ doesn’t get KOed.

Weaknesses:

Dhelmise. Both Hatterene and Aromatisse are weak to Dhelmise, making it difficult to have both on the field at the same time. Dhelmise is also immune to Rage Powder. PZ also can’t do much to it, activating its WP with Max Darkness would only make things worse. The only mon in this team that can threaten it is Urshifu.

Having Amoonguss+Aromatisse as a lead could be risky. As Hatterene doesn’t have high base power Max moves, even after WP proc, it could still be difficult to OHKO bulky Dmax mons. If Aromatisse gets KOed too soon into the game, it could also be devastating for Urshifu/Dracovish in the back as they can’t do much under TR without protect.

Conclusion:

So that’s all for the team report.

This team is very oppressive when able to move before the opponent, but difficult to make defensive switches for tough matchups. In the current meta, plenty of players try to counter Urshifu-SS (Such as using Scarf Primarina/Braviary, etc.), so do be careful when leading Urshifu. This team still have lots of space for improvement, please do try it out and fix it to your own taste.

Hope you enjoyed!
